What goes wrong

Three failures we test for before bulk

  • Thickness variation jams the machine. Natural shell varies; unsorted lots stop the buttoning line and cost a shift.
  • Cracks and chips in bulk. A brittle lot breaks in transit and you are short on a confirmed order.
  • Color mismatch across sizes. The 16L and the 20L arrive in different tones and the shirt looks wrong.

Each of these is a claim on your P&L, not a technical detail. We test the condition your care label specifies and put the result in writing before production starts.

Buyer questions

Nature shell — FAQ

Is natural shell subject to CITES or extra customs paperwork?
Mother-of-pearl from farmed shell is not a CITES-listed material, but some destinations ask for a material declaration. We provide the declaration and origin statement with the shipping documents.
How do you control thickness for automatic buttoning machines?
Lots are thickness-sorted by hand and the tolerance is confirmed in writing against your machine requirement — this is the main reason buyers move shell sourcing to us.
Can you supply shell buttons with a logo?
Laser engraving is possible on thicker sizes; on thin sizes it risks cracking, so we advise against it and will say so at quotation.
What about natural colour variation?
We build an approved range sample at the start. Every lot is checked against that range, and out-of-range pieces are removed.
