Real Leather Buttons

Real leather buttons — hand-wrapped shanks, stitch-decorated faces and bound-edge styles in the RL series, for leather coats, wool outerwear and heritage workwear. Genuine hide, not PU; the series has been in the range since 2008.

What goes wrong

Three failures we test for before bulk

  • PU passed off as leather cracks and peels. A coated PU button splits at the rim after one winter and the buyer charges back the whole coat program. We supply genuine hide with the material declared on the spec sheet — verifiable, not verbal.
  • Colour drifts from the leather garment itself. A 'brown' button next to a brown sheepskin panel reads visibly wrong. We match against your garment leather swatch and send button-on-swatch for approval before bulk.
  • Stitching loosens or the wrap shifts. Loose stitches unravel in wear and the wrap rotates off the face. We lock-stitch every wrap and pull-test the shank before packing.

Each of these is a claim on your P&L, not a technical detail. We test the condition your care label specifies and put the result in writing before production starts.

Buyer questions

Leather buttons — FAQ

Are these real leather or PU?
Real hide — cowhide or sheepskin, declared on the spec sheet. If a program needs PU for cost, we say so and quote PU openly; we do not pass one off as the other.
Can you match the button to our leather panels?
Yes. Send the garment leather swatch; we wrap to it and send buttons mounted on the swatch back for approval — that is how colour claims are prevented.
What sizes does the RL series cover?
24L to 44L as marked on the series boards; other diameters are made to order from the approved sample.
Do the buttons hold on heavy coats?
Shank buttons are pull-tested before packing; for heavy wool or shearling we recommend the larger shank base — we confirm the recommendation with the test data.
What should an RFQ for leather buttons include?
The RL style number or your custom reference, the diameter in ligne, a colour swatch of the garment leather and the annual quantity. We quote against it and send buttons mounted on your swatch for approval.
Do you supply compliance documents with shipments?
Yes — the material declaration and RSL test reports travel with the shipment; OEKO-TEX and GRS scoped declarations are available on request for nominated programs.
