Frog Closures

Hand-knotted frog closures and Chinese knot buttons — loops and knots tied to match your trim card, for qipao-inspired lines, New Chinese style and designer coats. CN series sample boards date from 2008 and are still tied the same way today.

What goes wrong

Three failures we test for before bulk

  • Knot-to-knot inconsistency in bulk. Hand-knotted work varies piece to piece — two frogs on one coat end up different sizes and the garment hangs uneven. We tie against an approved master sample and cap the tolerance, so bulk matches what the buyer signed.
  • Loops fray or deform after wash. A loosely bound loop relaxes, frays or loses shape in the first wash — and the claim lands after the garment is sold. We bind every knot with locked ends and run a wash test on the finish before bulk.
  • Ribbon colour drifts from the fabric. Satin ribbon matched under factory light turns pink or grey under shop light. We match Pantone or fabric swatch, then send a physical frog on your fabric for approval — not a photo.

Each of these is a claim on your P&L, not a technical detail. We test the condition your care label specifies and put the result in writing before production starts.

Buyer questions

Frog closures — FAQ

What is the difference between a frog closure and a Chinese knot button?
They overlap: a frog closure is the full fastening — a knotted button on one side and a loop on the other. 'Chinese knot button' usually refers to the decorative knot itself. We supply both as matched pairs and as knot-only trims.
Can you match the ribbon to our fabric exactly?
Send the Pantone number or a fabric swatch. We dye or select cord to it and return a physical frog on your fabric for approval before bulk — colour claims start from photos, not from swatches.
Will the knots survive dry cleaning and home washing?
We test the finished knot to your care instruction — wash temperature, dry cleaning solvent — and lock the ends so they do not unravel. Tell us the care label at inquiry and we test to it.
Do you make frogs from our own design?
Yes. Send artwork or a physical sample; we tie a counter-sample first, quote after the sample is approved.
How do we start an RFQ for frog closures?
Send the trim card or artwork with quantity and target price. We reply with a quotation and tie a counter sample against your card — an approval sample is signed before any bulk order runs.
Do you work as a nominated trims vendor?
Yes — we supply nomination programs where the buyer specifies the trims source. The approval sample, counter sample and compliance documents are issued under your program number.
